ABNY was formed to provide the private sector with an outlet to help solve the problems of the day. Thirty years later, ABNY continues to serve that need and therefore our programmatic agenda is always changing. Below are a few examples of the projects, programs, and issues that ABNY is tackling at this time.
ABNY Joins Million Trees NYC
A major goal of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s PlaNYC 2030 Plan is adding one million new trees to New York City’s urban forest over the next ten years. The greening of our streets and parks, business districts, commercial and residential properties, and backyards will improve NYC’s environment and air quality; benefit the health and safety of our residents; and promote neighborhood revitalization, economic development and greater community pride.
Million Trees NYC is a citywide initiative aimed at getting every New Yorker involved in the planting and stewardship of one million new trees throughout the city’s five boroughs. As a member of the Million Trees NYC Advisory Committee, ABNY will be working with fellow non-profits and other community, government and corporate partners, the NYC Parks Department and New York Restoration Project in a decade of strategic neighborhood tree planting and stewardship, community-based education, public awareness and outreach, urban forestry research and policy-maker education.
